The Mind versus The Traffic

Last friday evening, I had to cancel class due to my getting locked up in the traffic jam. And today, the infamous KL traffic had yet again, successfully robbed me of a job that I really needed, my time of long awaited rest at home and worst of all, half the money I had in my pocket to pay for the taxi fare, which costed a fortune! So there went my dinner.

Something has to change I thought, because stress can kill. Blood level rises due to all the anger and frustration of not being able to get to your destination and be happy. That also increases the blood pressure. People get anxiety attacks, migranes and headaches, which may lead to the malfunctioning of the digestive systems. Eventually, all those above symptoms we experience would unfortunately kill us.

Although it would seem hard in the beginning, we eventually have to learn how to control our frustrations through meditation, to be in the stillness of things and to allow all these things to simply pass us by....

  1. Having endured being stuck in traffic when a journey home that normally takes 40 minutes turns into a frustrating 2 hours especially after heavy rain around 4-5 pm, I know how you feel. It is even more stressful when you are behind the wheel with cars cutting into your lane from both sides and queue jumpers at junctions. Having to be alert so that your car would not get knocked by those aggressive drivers while feeling hungry, tired and needing to go to the loo, it can be a nightmare.

Practicing yoga behind the wheel has helped me to cope with stress by taking deep breaths to calm my mind and doing stretches as well as going to classes before going home to escape the traffic during peak hours.
