Counting down.
Its 35 days, 13 hours and 36 minutes more before an Aeroline bus departs from One World Hotel for Penang and i just cant wait to be in it. It would be the commencement of my 61-day sabbatical journey of enlightenment through Indochina to catch a train from Butterworth, Penang that will take me to Bangkok as the journey's first pitstop. Its one of those things that you are just sure about doing. No mixed feelings, no contemplating, nothing to hold you back that you would be guilty about, no one being unsupportive and absolutely no holds barred.
I have started to pull out all my books from everywhere to be auctioned off as part of my clear-out garage sale. I didnt realize how many books i had until i began looking for them and finding out that there are a few books that i have bought but hadn't yet read. I did think of bringing them with me to donate out but that would be extra weight that i would not need. So all out and hopefully sold out.
Parting with my books have so far seemed easy. I would imagine some other things which tend to get more difficult to part from especially if they are personal items that have sentimental value like a gift of some sort. But i am determined to toughen up and not fall for my melancholic sentiments cos i might end up keeping lots of unnecessary stuff. This has happened a lot in the past each time i had to move or relocate. Mind you, there are still things in unopened boxes from previous houses. If there is one thing which i find the most difficult to do when having your place uncluttered is making such choices. What gets thrown, what gets boxed up, whats good, whats bad, what has potential, what doesnt, whats priceless and whats worthless?
My thought carefully threads on how hard these choices could be, of how our decision effects the universe, and yet we unfalteringly make them everyday in our lives. The difference is how we look at these various issues we face in its paramount importance to life as oppose to the books we possess. In a bigger picture, they are in fact similar. The various issues are out there laid out in life for us to choose the right ones, kind of like books in a bookstore. Think of life as a huge BORDERS store and the books in it represent the many experiences (stories). If we choose the right one, we get a great story. Some of us pay have to pay a high price for it. Some gamble on it just because people tell us its nice. If its true, then its money (our effort) well spent, but if it proves otherwise? Some will put the book aside, some will throw it away and others share it with friends, but there ARE a few who would blatantly try and sell it to someone else.
In a nutshell, everything we do in life intertwines with each other and becomes similar to one another in one way or the other. What we see, what we eat, where we go and who we meet. They are simply choices in life that we have to perpetually make. In the end, the moral of the story is not about the things that we choose. It goes far beyond that, it is about the ultimate willingness of taking the responsibility in making that choice, being absolutely responsible for making a profound decision. So lets live life, make a choice and be responsible. After all, whose living your life other than you?
